As a society, I believe the sentiments of David Brooks, that we are “in the transition from a white-dominated America to a diverse America”, and as with all big change, there are conflicts, struggles and some ugly truths coming to light.
The ugly truth that, in nearly every sector of American life, profiling, distortion, discrimination, criminalization and harm is being done every day to BIPOC, in a manner mostly hidden and unrecorded.
I support the cause of Black Lives Matter and personal, political, and institutional equality and equity with my heart, with my vote, and with my wallet.
As a white person, I cannot hide from my participation in a system of white supremacy, even if it is unpleasant, even if it is unwitting. I humbly commit to listening, learning and becoming the anti-racist I wish to be, step by step, by doing my own inner work and with help from friends, colleagues, patients, and community.
